New Scholarship Established

Suzanne Kresser of Tri-State Financial Services, Steubenville, established an endowed scholarship at Eastern Gateway Community College in honor of her mother, Linda Slowikowski of Toronto. For 30 years, Slowikowski provided dedicated service at Eastern Gateway years as a secretary in the workforce and community outreach department. Before retiring in 2012, she was involved in many projects and activities at the college and was instrumental in the college’s levy renewal campaign in 2006 when the levy was approved by 66 percent of the voters. “Her positive outlook on life and her work were uplifting,” said President Dr. Laura Meeks, “and the college benefited from her dedicated and professional service.” The Linda K. Slowikowski scholarship will be awarded annually to a Jefferson County female student. Kresser is a member of the Eastern Gateway Foundation Board of Directors, which is campaigning for “Fifty by Fifty” for the college. The foundation’s goal is to gain 50 new $5,000 Named/Endowed Scholarships by the college’s 50th anniversary in 2018. To establish a named/endowed scholarship, an individual or business must pledge a minimum of $5,000 over five years with the endowment providing scholarships for decades to come.
